I HAVE recently spent several hours clearing litter from a countryside hedgerow. It is depressing to see how some people seem to view the countryside as a convenient place to dump their rubbish.

They may not realise that when an empty drink or food container is discarded, often out of a vehicle, the wind will carry this to the hedgerow where grazing animals are attracted to the sweet dregs. Consequently the animals will chew these discards and sometimes swallow them with lethal effect.
