TONY Blair, our illustrious Prime Minister, is in his last few days of office, the great illusionist has been parading around the stages of the world. The master of smoke, mirrors and the three card trick will be with us no more.

His arrogance and contempt for the British people in telling them he would only serve one more full term in office, has not been matched by any politician in recent history. He leaves on a lie or poor judgement after serving only a part term.

His legacy: Iraq.

John Prescott wanders the world looking for plaudits or other things before retirement.

Gordon Brown, meanwhile, acquiring funds from somewhere, pounds the country, having a bruising election battle, with himself, he has won that one.

Sounding like an opposition leader he tries to convince the electorate the last 10 years had nothing to do with him, apart from of course, the Bank of England decision.

Keir Hardie will be turning in his grave.

There is one last trick that Mr Blair could astound us all with. He could give his famous metaphorical two fingered salute, he normally reserves for the British people and give it to the Labour party and Gordon Brown instead.

He could go see the Queen, call an election and resign and at least he would have served a full term.

Now that would be a trick that would be worth paying good money to see.

TERRY CARROLL, Dibden Purlieu.
