WHEN the Queen formally invites Gordon Brown to take over as her Prime Minister today, perhaps she should also remind him about a promise he made to the voters of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath in 2005.
Like all the Labour MPs, he assured his constituents that he would not vote for a Bill to ratify the EU constitution without our approval in a national referendum.
Trying to wriggle out of that pledge would be a shameful start to his premiership.
If he cannot see that, Her Majesty should make it clear that she would refuse Royal Assent until the referendum had been held and the people had given their consent.
