WHAT a good question Where's The Vision For City's Future? (Daily Echo Comment, June 23).

How easy was is for the Conservative administration to knock back ideas without coming up with any of their own. They expect Southampton Partnership to come up with more proposals so they can play it safe without taking any flak themselves. Then keep knocking them back any ideas until their can jump on a bandwagon which seems popular enough to go with. Until that time Southampton partnership can be the fall guy.

Sometimes in life you must raise your head above the parapet, and I am about to do just that.

Playing it safe is boring, so here goes with an idea for a city council vision?

With the docks being such an important part of the history of Southampton how about on each of the three main roads coming into our city at the point of entry two large cranes each side of the road forming an arch to welcome everyone?

I think that would be quite a sight, and who knows maybe the docks would like to donate the six large cranes to the city.

Doing nothing is in my opinion not an option.

Southampton is a great place to live, and to work, rest, and play. The docks helped make that happen can anyone think of a better way to express to everyone as they come in and out the appreciation Southampton City has for the best docks in the world?
