The 2005 Labour manifesto made a firm promise about the EU constitution: "We will put it to the British people in a referendum".

And we know the new treaty is "essentially the same proposal as the old constitution", to quote EU Commissioner Margot Wallstrom.

So no Labour MP should expect to be let off this manifesto pledge.

It is absurd that we should have to resort to signing petitions to press our Prime Minister to keep his own promise, but nevertheless an E-petition has been started at: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk:80/EU-treaty-NON/ .

May I appeal to you to please sign this petition, and tell all their contacts about it?
