May I express a couple of views as a tee-total smoker.
I do appreciate that smoking in restaurants and pubs is best kept outside if possible, and most of my acquaintances who smoke would agree with that I am sure; however, as adults doing something totally legal, it is very galling when we cannot exercise our right to smoke in an appropriate area of a work place.
It is inflicting stress on a smoker when in a situation which is already stressful, eg a hospital visit, or a long wait at an airport, that they cannot be allowed to have a cigarette in an area so designated.
I also believe that a lot of people find this 'smoking police' campaign, actually makes them want to smoke more! I also know lots of non-smokers who also think that this total ban is out of order.
Perhaps, but I doubt it, now that this legislation is in place, someone could make life more comfortable for the non-drinkers like myself who find the smell of alcohol totally repulsive, and make alcohol off limits in places such as airports. Now that won't happen will it?
Another candidate for being banned in public places should be mobile phones, particularly in restaurants and supermarkets.
Somehow I don't think the 'smoking police' will turn their attention to these two public nuisances. I hope to be proved wrong.
