IN his letter Rift Between the Cultures Will Deepen (Daily Echo, July 10), Mark Crutchfield states that despite having religious instruction at some stage in his life nobody could tell him where Cain got his wife (this question is an old chestnut that surprisingly is still around). Also he seemingly has a problem with the creation account.
Firstly after having Cain and Abel the Genesis account goes on to say that they had other sons and daughters. Cain must have married a sister in order to fulfil the divine mandate to multiply and fill the earth. As they were closer to perfection than we are it had no effect on the children. There was no law against this at that time and as the book says "where there is no law there is no sin".
The order in which things were created is the same order in which evolution theorist's figure that things developed. Darwin in his "origin of the species" (the bible of the evolution theory) was rather upset that the fossil record indicated that the family kinds suddenly appeared as opposed to evolving slowly.
