IT is my understanding that the Daily Echo article saying that Bournemouth Airport is closed to passenger flights between 11pm and 6am is incorrect (July 13).
I telephoned the complaints line at Hurn (within the last six months) about a flight at 00.30 passing over Milford-on-Sea, to be told that due to an oversight by the local authority (when they sold off the airport into private hands) no restriction has been placed on night flying into Bournemouth.
The message is clear, local people should stop using low-cost flights from Eastleigh or Hurn, campaign for the increase in the cost of flying (quadruple the cost!) or put up with the consequences, aircraft noise pollution on an unprecedented scale in this region.
As usual, money is at the root of it all.
Anyone who can will get out of the south now, and will probably fly low-cost out of Southampton or Bournemouth to do it!
