I AM equally amazed at how patronising Christians like Mrs Margaret Jackman can be (Return to our Christian Heritage, Letters, July 24) just as she is at possible opposition to Oasis Trust taking control of two secondary schools in Southampton.
She suggests that those opposed "even if they cannot believe in God's salvation'', don't have the right to deny the facts presented in the Bible from our children.
I believe that I, and the majority of people in our modern, multicultural city, do indeed have a right and should not allow any religious groups to take control of our state comprehensive schools.
If parents want their children to learn about Christianity, then send them to church outside of school hours.
The suggestion that only Christians have any hold on morality is arrogant and presumptuous. How dare she suggest that the majority of the population who do not attend any religious institutions, lack integrity?
"What are we afraid of?'' she asks. I am afraid of bigotry, of the rejection of scientific fact in favour of mythology, and not least of all, of the privatisation of our public services: the taking over of our previously democratic, locally accountable secular schools by outside vested interests, GLYN OLIVER, Anti-Academies Alliance, Bevois Town, Southampton.
