THE proposed traveller transit site in Monks Brook will likely go ahead following intervention by Labour councillor Jacqui Rayment.

Throughout this whole fiasco we have seen the local people's opinions ignored by both Labour and the Liberal Democrats.

Our council is answerable to the local electorate, so I ask Labour and Liberal Democrats why despite concerns, objections and outright rejections by the local people they continue to plough ahead?

If Cllr Rayment and her leader Councillor June Bridle believe this is what the residents want they only have to look at Swaythling local election results from May. If they still believe they are right to plough on then they should come and speak to the local residents.

I notice that both Liberal Democrat councillors for Swaythling, David Beckett and Anne Milton, have stayed silent through the whole process.

Following their lack of actions on this matter it is clear that both councillors have no respect for their local electorate and have ignored their concerns.

UKIP Southampton is calling for both to resign their seats so the residents of Swaythling can elect someone who is interested in their thoughts and concerns.

The Daily Echo printed a letter on Thursday from Cllr Beckett saying that he was absent from the debate on the travellers' site because he had been injured at work - letters editor.
