Will our MPs throw marine wildlife a lifeline?
The future of our marine wildlife hangs in the balance because Gordon Brown has made only a half-hearted commitment to introducing a Marine Bill in his legislative programme.
The RSPB remains deeply concerned that the existing draft Marine Bill may yet be dropped from the Queen's Speech in October.
The seas around the coast of south-east England are some of the busiest shipping lanes in the world and the marine wildlife that lives there is facing a very uncertain future unless something is done to protect it.
As the most maritime region of England we ask that our south-east MPs pledge their support for a Marine Bill by signing a new cross-party Early Day Motion (1833). They owe it to everyone who believes in greater protection for the marine environment.
CHRIS CORRIGAN, RSPB south-east regional director.
