The two parlimentary by-elections held in Sedgefield and Ealing Southall were two important victories for Labour, and two ringing endorsements for the change offered by the new leadership of Gordon Brown.
These were two truly dismal results for David Cameron. In Sedgefield the Tories dropped from second to third, and in Ealing Southall questions the Tories are now asking questions about Cameron's judgment. By personally choosing the candidate, describing him as "David Cameron's Conservatives'' on the ballot paper and visiting the constituency no less than five times in three weeks, the Tory leader staked his reputation on the verdict of the electors of Ealing and Southall.
The results show that voters have rejected Cameron's celebrity politics and want the change that Gordon Brown is offering.
