I AM astounded. Now that the Liberal Democrats no longer run Southampton City Council it seems that Councillor Liz Mizon has nothing better to do than to gloat endlessly about how Monks Brook is the ideal' location for a traveller transit camp (Letters, July 26, and In My View, August 1).
It was interesting to note that Cllr Mizon compares the integration of gypsies and travellers into a local community to that of a sewage works, prison or treatment centre for drug addicts'. If this were not bad enough, she then felt the need to justify, in a self-indulgent rant, describing how the site was chosen.
Cllr Mizon, as you quite correctly state, green space is hard to find in Southampton. It is a pity you and your fellow Liberal Democrat councillors did not listen (even though you claim to have done so) to local people and allow this piece of green space to remain undeveloped.
