ON Sunday, August 5 it was the Hampshire Motocross Club's annual charity race meeting which this year was held at the amazing Matterley basin GP circuit in Winchester.

I was there as a rider and it was a brilliant weekend!

I want to thank Jamie Sanderson and everyone at the Hampshire club and the landowner Pevrill Bruce who made it all possible.

Everyone thought we'd seen the end of the amazing track after the bad publicity last year, but somehow it was bought back to life by the club and the landowner.

A fantastic time was had by the riders and the large crowd of spectators who turned out to see some cracking racing and raise a lot of money for the charity.

Maybe that was the last time we'll see the spectacular circuit as the council and authorities want it flattened.

A lot of effort went in to making the track and it will be a crying shame if it does have to go. The event on August 5 proved that the venue can be used without any trouble for amateur clubman racing.

I'm appealing to the council and the athorities to re-think the decision to close the track, it's a work of art to anyone who likes off-road motorcycling.

It's not near the road, not near any houses and is not doing anybody any harm. A great weekend was had by families of all ages on Sunday, please let there be more in the future.

Thanks again Jamie for bringing Matterley basin back to life, you are a legend! Thanks as well to everyone else involved, it's a day I'll never forget. Thanks for the memories.
