THE Prime Minister wants the Union Flag flown daily from public buildings.
There are certain days throughout the year when national flags are flown in Scotland and Wales. Similarly the Wessex flag (St Aldhelm Cross, which has been identified with Wessex at least since the 15th century, white cross on a red ground, similar to the Danish flag, but not on the Scandinavian pattern, the same as the flag of Savoy), should be flown in Wessex (essentially the Government's south-west and south-east regions) to mark events such as the birthdays of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, St Aldhelm's Day (patron saint of Wessex) and King Alfred's Day on October 26.
