I was born and brought up in Hebburn, County Palatine of Durham. Some 22 years and 105 days after my birth, I left my native county, to live and work on the south coast of England.

I moved to Hampshire to live and work on 1st May 1985, first on the Waterside and latterly in Woolston. This meant that on August 14 I have lived and worked in Hampshire for 22 years and 105 days. I have lived in Hampshire longer than I lived in my native county.

I am minded, therefore, to write to those nice people at the Castle in Winchester and ask if I can be naturalised as a Hampshire Hog. I wonder what questions they will ask me.

GERARD W CAVALIER, Woolston, Southampton.
