HOW can Southampton City Council justify the exorbitant charge of £1.50 for up to one hour's parking on Tremona Road? What if you need to visit a resident in Cedar Dale Road? At least half an hour should be free and then make a moderate charge, eg 30p for half an hour.
HEATHER RUSSELL, Shirley, Southampton.
A spokesman for Southampton City Council replies: The parking charges on Tremona Road only apply to the non-residential area between Southampton General Hospital and Hollybrook cemetery; these charges are similar to the rates in the hospital's own parking facilities.
The residential areas including Dale Road have free two-hour parking spaces and for longer visits, residents can also apply for a number of visitor's day permits. These can be obtained in Gateway in the Civic Centre.
