WE must all hope that young Callum Lockyer (Daily Echo, August 14) recovers fully.
The main lesson to be learned isn't about helmets, but about maintaining bikes.
Helmets protect only the cyclist's head in a collision - and then only partially.
Most injuries are to other parts of the body. Working brakes prevent collisions, and prevention is better than cure. Parents take note!
