HOW can Jack Walker (Letters, August 23) compare Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole to Elvis Presley?
They were crooners or ballad singers, all extremely talented I agree, but Elvis was an icon and the first of his kind. He reinvented music and performing. He was drop-dead gorgeous. Nobody will ever compare to him. That is why he still creates mania and always will.
My daughter is 20 but she thinks Elvis was amazing and loves his music.
I grew up in the 50s and 60s and I get a lot of young people saying they envy me and would love to have lived then.
The post-war years created teenagers and a fantastic change in music, Elvis being the first.
