MANY readers will know and enjoy the New Forest National Park.

I wonder what their reaction would be if one of Britain's major electricity suppliers, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), owners of Southern Electric, proposed to drive a 137-mile line of huge pylons through one of the most scenic sections?

This is what SSE is proposing for the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland, in spite of the fact modern technology allows cables to be safely and economically buried.

Britain's national parks belong to us all, not just those of us who live in or near them. Please be warned that if they can do this to the Cairngorms - Monarch of the Glen Country - they can do it to any national park.

The Government has just spent £70m removing pylons for The London Olympics and putting the cables underground - so it can be done.

If you feel strongly about the future of Britain's natural heritage please be vigilant. See what is happening to us on www.cairngormsagainstpylons.org. Your national park could be next.
