THE connection between two recent stories causes me great discomfort.

Firstly there has been a massive rise in the amount of lead (and brass) being stolen from buildings - especially churches. Hundreds and hundreds of churches have been stripped of lead just this year by well organised gangs, reputedly sending it on to China.

The damage being done to our heritage is immense. Secondly, we have just read about millions of toys (produced in China) being recalled for having too much lead in the paint. The connection is all too painful.
