NIGEL Anderdon (Letters, August 27) is rightly alarmed at the Labour Government's plans to concrete over the south of England in general and south Hampshire in particular. We are talking house-building on a massive scale, often on flood plains.
The risks are well understood because a recent survey from Norwich Union found that 85 per cent of construction professionals thought that urban flooding would be a major problem in the future. This is despite England's natural population having been static for many years.
The problem is exacerbated by the loss of control of our national borders and the mass immigration into London and the south-east.
Huge numbers of migrants are being admitted on an open-ended basis and they have to live somewhere. As a result, our inadequate infrastructure - schools, hospitals, roads and water services - are under additional pressure.
Only New Labour could bring us both floods and drought simultaneously. Well done!
