WHY not rename the former South Western Hotel? It should be called Titanic House and a suitable monument installed nearby inscribed with the names of every person known to have been on board the ill-fated liner, be they victims or survivors.
This is possibly not the sought after wow factor but the availability of suitably compiled literature and memorabilia should be of interest to both locals and visitors alike.
Bringing back the Queen Mary from California may be a pipe dream, but the acquisition of a propeller for placing at the Pound Tree Road end of the Above Bar pedestrian area would provide one small maritime link without the need for commissioning the work of a sculptor.
Prior to the news of the intentions of Woolworth's and TK Maxx, I had a notion that the topography of the zone encompassed by Above Bar, Hanover Buildings and Pound Tree Road could be exploited to create our wow factor - the Babylon Project, a terraced garden reaching down to the parkland, possibly enclosing a casino, skating rink - you name it - and Vincent's Walk.
