IN response to Councillor Adrian Vinson's comments regarding the transit site in Monks Brook (In My View, August 28). What he seems to fail to let everyone in Southampton know is that if the transit site is full at any time, the police do not have the power to move on any other illegal encampments around the city. We are then left with the same problem as we did before.

But with the following: Cost of site £2m-£2.5m (taxpayers' money).

Annual upkeep £70,000 to £80,000.

Illegal encampments.

Still the clean-up costs (taxpayers' money)£100,000 as we've been led to believe.

The destruction of Monks Brook.

Your courage and bravery, Cllr Vinson, is a shining example to future leaderships. This issue alone will haunt you and the residents of Swaythling for years to come.

I have no political allegiance but be sure, Cllr Vinson, my vote will never favour your group.

RICHARD ROWE, Swaythling, Southampton.
