GRAHAME Smith (Letters, September 10) wrote concerning the Ashurst to Lyndhurst cycleway.

I thought what a good idea this was. I walked it just after it was finished but cannot remember whether there was tarmac under the loose material.

I have been a cyclist all my life until the last few years and thought the surface was quite good, forgetting the problems sand and grit can cause to cyclists. This should be rectified.

The cycle path from North Baddesley to Rownhams is very well used. I noticed a sweeping machine trundling along its length, clearing it of debris. If it can be done there, surely it can be done in the New Forest.
