REFERRING to various insinuating comments from readers and the comment regarding "disabled and their cars appear to be well off and do not need these concessions''. I would like everyone to realise that the disabled are independent, appreciate all the help they receive and the assistance that is afforded them, and importantly they have worked hard to support a family all through their lives. There are no freeloaders in this world.
In the first instance the car is not purchased by their own savings but is, indeed, financed with the assistance of the "Motorbility Disabled Scheme'' which is truly a life saver because the severely disabled is unable to get on a bus because there is no room for a wheelchair.
Just as importantly, these cars are financed with the disabled's own pension over a period of three years. Half of the pension is left for the disabled person to live on. The vehicle has to be returned after three years and there is no refund!. Needless to say, the disabled person has to live frugally with their remaining pension money, BUT we are indeed grateful to have a chance of joining the "real world''.
Do not castigate us, be glad that you, the reader, do not have problems that will cause you to be so immobile. You are in no way contributing to this scheme. We are not sorry for ourselves, we get on with life.
