I AM afriad that I have to respond to Martin Kyrle's letter in Thursday's Echo regarding the highly contentious issue of Eastleigh allotments. Where I have no objection to Mr Kyrle opposing my views I will seriously contest his derogatory comments on allotment protesters integrity and the accuracy of information published in previous correspondence on this issue.
Those who have been involved in this acrimonious battle, Eastleigh allotment holders, their families, friends and the people of Eastleigh themselves, are beyond reproach in their soundness and honesty in presenting their case for the retention of these valued sites within the borough. They have dealt with facts, reality and truth. Eastleigh Borough Council by comparison have been a myriad of spin, half-truths, guile and chicanery.
As Martin Kyrle is an ex-Lib Dem councillor and totally servile to the current administration it is no surprise that his letter was also full of inaccuracies, spin, rhetoric and downright nonsense.
He should hang his head in shame to have ever been associated with a council that treats its residents in such an appalling manner.
Richard May, Eastleigh.
