I READ with interest the proposal that Meachers provide a lorry park in Nursling Industrial Estate to enable goods to be transferred from the lorries to smaller vans to transport into our busy city centre.
However, should this happen and if their application for the funding they are hoping to apply for is succesful I hope some of the funding will be used to improve the signage for the lorry drivers in Nursling Village.
We regularly see very large lorries driven down Nursling Street in error, presumably looking for the industrial estate, only for the drivers to realise that this is in effect a country lane and a dead end with no turning facilities.
We watched yet again a monster truck pass the back of our house only last week to see it moments later have to reverse the whole length of the street and then attempt with great difficulty to turn round.
A lot of the drivers appear to be from abroad - in fact one that my husband attempted to help could only say "I lost''.
After unsuccesfully trying to direct the driver to the address on his paperwork my husband decided to drive in front of the lorry to escort the driver across the motorway to TESCO distribution Centre on the Industrial estate.
Although all this is entertaining to watch it is a bit of a hazard and surely stressful for the drivers concerned. Why are so many arriving down this lane? Could this be Satnavs?
