WITH reference to the letter from J Oldfield (Daily Echo 1/4/08) as a Blue Badge holder myself I can assure him that we have to comply with the law as much as anyone.
There are 19 different restrictions set out in our handbook stating where we cannot park.
Obviously if parked anywhere which causes an obstruction or danger to other road users or if parked improperly on privately owned land we risk being wheel clamped.
The vehicle must also be moved wherever it may be, if a police officer or traffic warden in uniform requests it.
I have never yet needed to park on double yellow lines as they are obviously there to assist the free flow of traffic.
As well as the risk of being prosecuted we are also liable to an additional penalty upon conviction which is to have the badge withdrawn.
Should this happen many people like myself would not be able to do their shopping by using the bays provided near the entrance to large stores.
I would suggest to Mr Oldfield that he contacts his local council and obtains a form from them which is passed to his doctor and upon his signature a badge from Winchester may be sent for a small fee and he will find life a lot easier.
