WELL done to Southampton City Council for reinstating free traffic flow through Woodmill.
At last, four miserable years of frustrating traffic jams either side of the mill - including evening paralysis of the Woodmill Lane/Portswood Road junction - have ended. No more minutes wasted with both directions of traffic at red.
Admittedly, displaced stop lines could be painted at both ends of the disputed section to permit egress of oncoming traffic. Plus, possibly, a sign suggesting three-car convoys maximum. What is most called for, however, is a modicum of common sense.
Pete Dobson (Letters, April 12) and his timid associates who prefer the order of traffic lights, are welcome to carry on using Cobden Bridge or the A27. Yes, more fuel burned and time wasted, but surely they have become inured to that by now?
