I WAS very interested to read the article (Daily Echo, April 4) about the sighting of the osprey.
Lower Test Marsh at Redbridge may be the best place in Southampton to watch birds but I would also recommend Weston Shore. I am thinking particularly of the large car park at the Netley end.
Recently I have seen a pair of great crested grebe diving just off shore. I watched one on its own on several occasions, and it was a great thrill.
On April 3 from the same spot I was privileged to see both grebe, plus a pair of curlews and a pair of little egrets!
On April 11 a seal was spotted some way out, again from the same vantage point, presumably on a day's outing from Chichester Harbour.
Although as the attractive nearby information panel states, the abundance of crows seems to have deterred some of the smaller waders, the larger ones are definitely not put off. Could anything be done to lure the crows back inland?
