COUNCILLOR Ken Thornber, the leader of Hampshire County Council, stated he was not prepared to disclose to the Taxpayers' Alliance reference to specific job titles as this would mean that levels of remuneration of individuals would be identifiable (Letters, April 11). Apparently the council has difficulties reconciling its conflicting duties under the Freedom of Information Act and its duty as an employer protecting the personal data of staff.
Cllr Thornber should know that an employee such as himself has an overriding duty to his employers, who are the taxpayers. If he has difficulties reconciling any differences he should do the honourable thing and resign immediately.
JOHN W COCK, Chandler's Ford.
