AFTER reading about the low energy light bulb that started to smoke (Letters, April 24), I emphasise the need to ensure that the correct fuse is fitted into the plug before connecting any electrical equipment.
Over the years I have come across 13amp fuses (brown) fitted in plugs that are connected to items such as radios, Christmas lights, battery chargers, televisions, computers and many other low wattage items.
The fuse is there to protect against circuit overloads that could lead to either the flex or equipment catching fire. Use a maximum of three amp (pink) or less (better) in plugs being used for this type of equipment.
It is important to read the fuse rating displayed on the product before commissioning.
