AT long last something is being done about the pavement cyclists in Shirley. We now know that it is illegal and culprits will face a fine.
For two years I have complained to the police, written many letters, but always got a negative response. This summer I have been walking unevenly with a stick after two knee operations. Several times I have narrowly escaped a collision with a cyclist on the pavement, and they are not just youngsters, but older men and women also. Why is it not law to have a bell affixed to the handlebars as it always was when I was a cyclist. At least, it can be rung as a warning that a cycle is behind you.
Regarding the fine, how many will be caught out and by who? There is hardly even a policeman walking Shirley High Street. More of the force is needed in this area.
