I CAN assure you that Dilys Gartridge (letters January 7) does not speak for all members of Southampton Cycling Campaign in accusing Southampton’s professional drivers of ‘institutional anti-cyclistism!’ Like all who cycle commute on busy city roads, I come across regular examples of appalling behaviour, including from professional drivers. However, the proportion of drivers involved is very small: the majority of bus drivers in particular are courteous and considerate.
I hope Ms. Gartside reported the bully-boy driver who intimidated her, as this was clearly unacceptable.
But please don't exaggerate, since this will in no way encourage anybody to address cyclists' many legitimate concerns.
MISS J GASTON, Member of Southampton Cycling Campaign.
