THERE has been quite a lot of discussion about the European Union in recent letter pages.

I wonder how many readers are aware of the following: The amount of money lost or wrongly paid out annually by the EU totals £5 billion, this sum is roughly equivalent to Britain’s annual payment. According to Roger Helmer MEP this only accounts for ‘known fraud and incompetency’.

In 2008 our government quietly removed the Death Penaltyâ for treason, the purpose of such an action was to clear the way for the government to coerce the queen into signing the Lisbon treaty without her ministers having to face ‘the gallows’.

I now learn that the death penalty has been re-introduced for offences against Europe as part of the Lisbon Treaty.
