I’VE never been driven to write into the Echo before (I've been close on occasion though) but this furore over First Bus and the Atheist posters has given me cause to write in again.
This time over the many letters from Christians who are offended by the advert.
I have to walk past a great many churches declaring that I am a sinner and the Jesus is my only chance of salvation and I have no desire to complain.
Yet a secular humanist group promotes its philosophy and people cry 'Offence'.
I think that these complainers will find that under the new Religious Discrimination Laws (whatever they are worth) Atheist views are now just as protected as Christian ones.
The advert does not attack Christianity or its followers, or those of any other religion/philosophy/belief, rather it states (in a diluted form) the primary (and only commonly shared) tenet of Atheistic belief.
If this offends you then perhaps we should get offended when Theists make claims about their Gods.
TOM HIGGINS, Southampton.
