MOST people think I'm nuts but actually I love eating them - one reason I've brought out my own range of salted Fairtrade nuts called Harry's Nuts!
I'm not making any money out of this venture - it's all being done to help Fairtrade farmers lift themselves out of poverty. Comic Relief is helping too - by providing peanut shellers. Comic Relief also backs the people I'm working with on this, the Fairtrade nut company Liberation which is run to benefit the farmers and their families.
Harry's Nuts! are available in two varieties, salted peanuts and salted cashews. They're in Sainsbury's now and Waitrose from February 2nd as well as other outlets. They're cooked for longer than other brands to make them extra crunchy and delicious. They're reasonably priced too.
Last year I visited the peanut farmers in Malawi who supply some of the nuts and I saw first hand some of the benefits that come with Fairtrade - like a shelter built to protect the relatives of patients at the local hospital who had nowhere to be protected from the elements after walking many, many miles to be close to their loved ones and help look after them. I've been heavily involved in getting the taste right for the nuts and with the pack design. I want to do for peanuts what Paul Newman did for salad dressing. If only he'd worn glasses and bigger collars people would see the likeness...
So check out Harry's Nuts! And which tastes better, salted peanuts or salted cashews? There's only one way to find out. B...I...T...E!
