I FEEL I must apologise most sincerely to the New Forest District Council for the audacity for applying for a grant to help me with a bathing problem. I did not realise that some of these poor should had to exist on a paltry £50,000 a year.
A few weeks ago I applied to this council for a grant to have my bath taken out and a walk in shower fitted. I am 81 years old and due to a medical problem cannot lift my legs to get into the bath/shower. My wife was always on hand to help me when I fell, which I have a habit of doing quite often.
My wife died last month and now I am on my own so have to rely on my son being in the area to help me into the bath/shower. An OT came out to see me and assess my needs, I was told that there were no funds available to have this work carried out. I wonder if this OT is one of these poor unfortunates that have to exist on a mere £50,00 per year?
