SCIENTISTS meeting in Denmark tell us that, now the melting of ice around the world has been taken into account, sea levels will rise by almost twice the amount previously predicted, that is a metre, rather than 60 centimetres, by the end of the century.
This is of particular concern in Zeaxland-Wessex, since so much of our land is below sea level. Wessexers must press the politicians in London to take appropriate steps.
We all have to learn to do things differently. Mothers could do their bit by leaving the car at home and walking their children to school.
As well as reducing pollution and CO2 emissions, they could improve the health of their children and themselves by doing so.
T R Spratt, assistant secretary, The Wessex Society.
