WE have the most terrible prefab waterfront one would not wish for.
Paying out huge sums to ten expert advisers for the last 3/4 years – what a waste of our cash. I go every week to the library and see no one looking at the plan, or indeed interested. The big boys toys at the Boat Show in Mayflower Park, and using a part of the river front the public have access to – has any of the money been put to enhancing the Park? I think not.
The container firm is putting empty containers adjacent to the main road, what a sight. Passengers disembarking get in a taxi cab and leave Southampton as fast as they can. All they can see is an expanse of prefabricated buildings and a junk yard of containers. West Quay looks great, but other Cities have the same setup with the same shops, so why would visitors want to stop and shop. IKEA is a draw for people miles around and no doubt will keep busy for a couple of years, but look, what a cheap trashy tin shed it is.
Councils and quangos past and present are charlatans and we have lost respect for these people. Don’t pat yourselves on the back because most of you have made a disgraceful job at running our City and town.
PETER MOORBY, Southampton.
