I’M writing as a candidate for the county elections on June 4th. I’m very surprised at Christine Melsom of the IsIt Fair group comment about the elections costing a lot of money and that democracy is costing us rather a lot?
Would she rather elections were abolished altogether and that we be told what to do by unelected quangos like the committee that ignored public opinion over fluoride!
Be grateful that we do have a democratic process in this country and that we are all entitled to stand as a candidate to express our views via the ballot box. As a Green the right to vote and decide who we want to be our representative is so important and something we should all cherish.
I know the Daily Echo will do its bit to promote all candidates standing for election as the media is an important means of communication which I use all the time.
John Vivian, Green Candidate, Crofton Division.
