IT'S a shame we seem to have annoyed Europhile Richard Grant (again) with our use of Winston Churchill (letters May 15) on our Euro Election leaflets. One thing we do not need from him is a history lesson, we are all quite aware of who or what Sir Winston Churchill was or stood for, I am personally old enough to have been around during his greatest years, in a word it was Freedom.
Yes he did envisage a united Europe with Great Britain as the power at its helm and in control of its own destiny. If the great man was alive today to see how this once great country he loved so dearly was being manipulated and used by the unelected bureaucrats we now have in Brussels while the weak excuses for politicians we have in Westminster bow to their every wish he would surely die all over again.
It's no good Richard Grant being upset because UKIP has used a figurehead from another party, it's that very word Freedom we are promoting freedom from all the things that has driven this country to the very brink of total financial collapse with the shadow of Big Brother hanging over all our heads. What I wonder has he to say concerning the £40million we are literally throwing away daily to remain in Europe while our National Health Service and Welfare State remain so over-stretched and in such a poor financial condition, our taxes also literally highest in Europe.
At the same time our borders are being constantly breached by migrants queuing in France to stake their claims in this poor overcrowded land. It may be the type of country Richard Grant enjoys living in but not mine.
