SORRY for my late reply to Mr Kebbell's "In my view" comments on May 14.
As he puts things the nimbys of Redbridge were most upset at the thought of a recycling plant being installed on our doorstep or even a travellers site so we made an effort to persuade our local councillors that the field at the end of Gover Road and Test Lane should only be used for light industry as agreed over ten years ago when the council at that time agreed that this field was only suitable for this purpose.
As an ex resident of Swaythling I think that the proposal to site a travellers site or as Mr Kebbell so quaintly put things on balance put the recycling centre there in Swaythling so Mr Kebbell will be able to be a nimby after all.
Was Mr Kebbell at the Residents Association's Meeting, I think not or he would be aware that neither the residents or the council had proposed putting the recycling plant in Swaythling. Also, if Mr Kebbell was to re-read the council's reasons for not building the travellers site on the Gover Road site he would see that it was with the backing of the police, fire service and ambulance service along with many other safety factors that the field was deemed "not fit for purpose", the same reasons that are being given for the non-sighting of the recylcing plant!.
Roy Sanders, Redbridge resident.
