WHEN we learned that a CD single had been produced by Karen Mann to raise funds for cancer research we decided to help raise some money.
Karen sent some copies of her CD Why, Oh Whyÿ to Hartlepool. We raised money through CD sales and from donations in memory of our son from our family and friends here in Hartlepool and sent it off to Karen for Cancer Research UK.
There is no north-south divide in the loss we all feel in the wake of this non-discriminating disease. Our story is that of parents who lost their only child to the disease at the age of 35. Any death of a relative is tragic; however the death of a child (at any age) is devastating.
Our link with Winchester stems from the fact that our only grandchild lives in the area.
Although we are in Hartlepool in the northeast of England we follow the progress of fundraising and other activities in Winchester.
We think of our grandchild growing strong and healthy. We also remember our son, Timothy Leon Dickson (Tim to almost everyone).
FRED AND BARBARA DICKSON, Hartlepool.
