MR David Keyworth (Letters, November 1) is absolutely right, the tax discount to pensioners who, under the rules, don’t qualify for it, amounts to no more than political bribery of the “grey vote”. I feel it should be investigated by the Electoral Reform Society.
It is typical Tory tactics. They will use whatever chicanery they can to influence the vote.
It took years of campaigning to do away with the system that allowed business owners and those at university two votes each, in the days when there were few red-brick universities, and only wealthy people could afford to go there.
The latest ploy is the reduction of parliamentary seats, virtually all of them opposition safe seats.
And should anyone feel the need to ask, yes, I am in receipt of the above mentioned discount.
