I TRUST you might allow a response to the debate regarding a section of our people who believe disabled people should pay for parking.
Although disabled myself, my wife is far worse and has problems even walking around our sheltered bungalow. Even stepping into our car is painful for her prior to sitting in her wheelchair.
At the start of her problems, following a hip operation, I made contact with Social Services regarding the possibility of obtaining a converted disabled vehicle on the motability scheme.
‘How old are you’ was the main question. I replied we were both in our 70s. ‘Then you are both too old’, was the initial reply. I stated ‘what you are telling us is don’t be disabled after you’re 65 years of age’. ‘Yes’, was the reply!
I think that just about sums up Mother England’s attitude to the pensioners, who have given their all for the kids of today.
HUGH CLEVERLY, Fair Oak.
