I HAVE written letters in the past questioning the decision not to allow the Dibden Bay container port to go ahead and was verbally attacked – well, now let’s look at the real picture.
Liverpool gets £30m to dredge the Mersey to attract larger container ships. If we had Dibden Bay as a purposebuilt container port would they take our container business?
If we lose both cruise and container ships what’s the point of dredging the water?
Stop dredging and the river silts up and what happens to the reclaimed land? Maybe Dibden Bay will be a bay again so no one wins. More jobs which would have been created and jobs that were there will be gone.
Liverpool and Shellhaven will be employing more and Southampton will become an unemployment hot spot.
Well done Nimbys. Or will they see sense and stop objecting to the new container port? I don’t hold out any hope
