SATURDAY, November 19 was an important day for Sally Spicer and one to be remembered.
It was the day she was selected as a candidate for the Coxford Ward at next year’s local elections. Sally feels elated about this as, living in Coxford, she has a hands-on feeling for things to do; her children go to school in Coxford and she has many friends who are real people with real problems; moreover, she has three generations and 90 years of family history in the Labour movement behind her.
I am already proud of Sally’s jobs so far (as I see it, two of the three most important jobs in Britain today): 16 years in childcare, and now in domiciliary care for the elderly and vulnerable. The third important job, of course, would be representing the people through the democratic process.
I admire Sally for what she has achieved to date and am obviously proud of her. But then I would say that – I’m her father, and like any parent I will support her any way I can in this new venture.
The next most important day in Sally’s political career is the local election day 2012.
