I CANNOT let one more week elapse without expressing my horror at the behaviour of most of the teenage school children on the Service 1 bus from Woolston to Southampton City Centre. Unfortunately I now have to travel quite regularly on this service which passes Swift Road at about 3.10pm.

The children (mainly girls!) scream and shout while racing up and down the gangway and the stairs. Their language is quite disgusting. Some swing from handrails and even the rail above the stairwell. If and when they do decide to sit still for a few seconds, they put their feet on the upholstery. Those upstairs repeatedly bang the windows and verbally abuse pedestrians below.

How the drivers concentrate on their job I cannot imagine. But should one of these maniacs get injured it would be the driver who would be blamed by everyone, especially the little angel’s parents!

Shouldn’t we long-suffering adults challenge these louts about their appalling behaviour? Of course we should, but we feel too intimidated by them, as do the few wellbehaved pupils who appear on edge and cannot wait to reach their destinations.

They are a disgrace to themselves, their school and their families.
